A long, long time ago, (2004 to be exact) we were three young ambitious guys who crossed paths at our local church in slummies (aka East London, Eastern Cape). Growing up in a water scarce country, water restrictions were a regular occurence but early in our friendship we were more concerned with hunting and fishing than solving real problems. Fortunately, we matured and our common cause for friendship evolved into our company purpose. And so our rotational moulding business, Eco Tanks began.
From the start, our collective mission has always been to manufacture premium quality products at affordable prices, whilst continuing to offer new and exciting solutions to our customers. Initially, Eco Tanks was a local rotational mould for water and septic waste, but has since expanded into an extensive range of products in various shapes, sizes and functions – most recently our AFRIcooler range of cooler boxes. We are confident that an AFRIcooler is the perfect vessel for anything from a casual braai to a hardcore trek into Africa.
There are four manufacturing plants: East London, Pretoria, Cape Town and Pietermaritzburg. Whilst being the 2nd largest rotational mould producer in South Africa, we are mindful of our roots and proud to be able to contribute to the financial growth and stability in the Eastern Cape Province. Whilst the past 20yrs of manufacturing in South Africa has not been without challenges – thanks to our dedicated team and loyal market we have been blessed with phenomenal success and learnt valuable lessons along the way. Throughout every lesson we have embraced the growth and celebrated the successes. 2024 marks our two decade anniversary – 20 years for which we are incredibly proud, humbled and grateful. Thank you South Africa.
So how did we actually end up from moulding water tanks to coolers? Being avid adventure enthusiasts, we were timously disappointed with the performance of coolers in the marketplace. We knew the power of our virgin raw materials so we created a cooler, which we believe, should be first on everybody’s packing list. So as we often do in SA – * ‘n Boer maak ‘n plan’ and oh boy, did we make a world class plan! (* Afrikaans term meaning a farmer makes a plan).
We wanted something that was built for the wilds of Africa, easily transportable and ultimately kept goods cold for as long as possible, without electrical intervention. We paid personal and detailed attention to intricate details with a South African lifestyle in mind. For example:
Dont hesitate and don’t look back. Keep the adventures going and always… always, keep cool. the AFRIcooler team, South Africa x
